  • During your holidays in Château-la-Vallière, take advantage of an ideal location to explore the Touraine area and discover the unique heritage of the Loire Valley.

    Château-la-Vallière and its surroundings…

    Only 5 km from the campsite, in Vaujours (commune of Château-la-Vallière), you will find the remains of an ancient era. At 3.60 metres high, the Menhir de Vaujours (Menhir de Château-la-Vallière) is one of the most imposing megalithic monuments in the Touraine region. Called the Menhir of Vaujours or the Menhir of Château-la-Vallière, it is the second most important megalithic monument in Touraine with its 3.60 m height. On the edge of Anjou, you can admire this monument from another era. On a more recent historical note, take the time to discover the ruins of the Château de Vaujours, dating from the 15th century. Seat of the duchy-pawn of La Vallière, learn more about it during a guided tour. For lovers of retro cars, meet up every fourth Sunday of the month. “”Vaujours Rétro”” is a large gathering of old cars, organised by the owner, which will allow you to discover the premises in an atypical way!

    Val Joyeux Lake

    The lake is located 300 metres from the campsite and covers almost 36 hectares, in the heart of the Château-la-Vallière forest, just outside the village. A large sandy beach is accessible to all and also has a first-aid post during the summer months. It is the ideal place to enjoy the beautiful summer days. You will have the opportunity to swim there: swimming is supervised in July/August. It is also a little corner of paradise for all fishing enthusiasts. For sports, there is a large orienteering course, a petanque field, games for children, a volleyball court and other activities to share with your group or family! Don’t forget your picnic…

    Loire Valley Castles

    Come and discover the most beautiful treasures of the Loire Valley heritage (classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and take the time to visit these architectural feats, bearing witness to a rich history. Nearby: Château d’Azay-le-Rideau at 40 km, Château de Villandry at 36 km, Château de Langeais at 30 km, Château d’Ussé at 45 km, Château de Luynes at 30 km (closed to visits), Château du Lude at 17.4 km, Château de Champchevrier at 15.2 km, Château de Marcilly-sur-Maulne at 9 km, Château de Gizeux at 21 km.

    Cycling loops

    For our cyclo-tourists, discover the magnificent landscapes around the Val Joyeux, and stay close to nature. Loop No. 28 is a 25 km (2.5 hours) route that takes you through the Touraine countryside, passing through the surrounding villages and the Château de Marcilly overlooking the Maulne valley, from where you will also discover some pleasant hiking trails. This route is suitable for all levels.

    Zoo de la Flèche

    Just a few kilometres from the Sarthe, the campsite is a 30-minute drive from the famous La Flèche Zoo. Spread over more than 18 hectares, many species can be discovered. More than 1,500 animals are waiting for you, as well as numerous activities. The ideal outing for the whole family! Plan to spend the day there (catering available on site).

    Lake and tourist train of Rillé

    A real plunge into the past, 13 km from the campsite! This old departmental railway, which used to criss-cross the region, is still in operation today thanks to the efforts of the volunteers of the AECFM association. Steam locomotives and vintage wagons, now restored, will allow you to discover the lake of Rillé, through beautiful forest landscapes. Lake Rillé is the largest lake in Touraine. This vast haven of preserved peace extends over nearly 250 hectares, from where you can admire many species of birds. Sporting activities, hiking trails and cycling routes will allow you to enjoy an outing in the fresh air.

    Local gastronomy

    The gastronomy of the Loire Valley is undeniably rich in flavours, reflecting an exceptional terroir. Take the time to taste it and stop off at one of the many restaurants in the area. Among the culinary specialities, you will find Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine, Tours nougat, rillettes/rillons, andouillette, poires tapées, fouées…. and many others that will delight your taste buds. As for wine, accompany yourself with a glass of Bourgueil or Chinon!

    And why not stop off to discover the Sarthe? Château-la-Vallière is located in the north-west of the Indre-et-Loire department, on the edge of the Sarthe. This is an opportunity to continue your stay and discover the nearby heritage. The town is well known for its famous motor racing circuit, so car lovers will be delighted.
